WCDT is a charitable trust working for the regeneration of the Woodlands area of Glasgow, Scotland.  It was established in 1985 by a cross-section of local residents with the support of Glasgow City Council, and is a member organisation managed by volunteers.  The Trust was charged with the responsibility of promoting regeneration projects, in particular in the East Woodlands area, and was gifted a number of vacant sites to do this.  The Trust has redeveloped all but one of these sites and has built well over 200 new houses, providing good quality housing for a large section of the resident population as well as attracting new residents.

In 1988 the population was less than 5000 .. it is now estimated at well over 6000.  Woodlands is amongst the most ethnically diverse areas of Glasgow, with one third of local residents coming from a black or ethnic minority background; students make up one third of the population.  As a long-standing community organisation, WCDT is constantly seeking and obtaining the feedback of local people.  Its members and directors are actively involved in other community-based organisations and initiatives such as the Community Council, and are therefore able to provide relevant analysis and feedback regarding the thoughts of people within the community.  In 2008, the Trust hosted a facilitated vision day for its directors and associates, where the needs and ideas of the community were discussed and translated into a new set of Objects for adoption into its Memorandum and Articles of Association.  These objectives and focus were in line with the Scottish Government’s policies, and enabled the Trust to seek funding for the development of the remaining site into a Community Garden and Energy Awareness Hub.

WCDT Objects
1.  To promote urban regeneration and the redevelopment and revitalisation of the area of Woodlands and neighbouring areas for the benefit of their residents without distinction as to their race, age, gender, religion, or political or other opinions;
2.  To relieve unemployment for the public benefit among people resident in the area in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment;
3.  To promote education and advance health among people resident in the area;
4.  To advance environmental protection and improvement for the benefit of the general public, and in particular, people resident in the area;
5.  To advance the arts, heritage and culture of the area;
6.  To advance citizenship among people resident in the area;
7.  To promote religious and racial harmony and to promote equality and diversity among people resident in the area;
8.  To promote and/or support other similar projects and programmes, which further charitable purposes, for the benefit of people resident in the area.
